Working Smarter, Not Harder with SMART Goals
Transformative Perspectives on Goal Setting and Achievement
Hello Connect the Dots Community!
I hope this email finds you well and that you're ready to dive into another exciting episode of the Connect the Dots - Lead the Way podcast! In this episode titled "Goal Setting Reloaded: Working Smarter, Not Harder, with SMART Goals," we explore the power of goal setting and its impact on personal and professional growth.
Setting goals is not just about writing down a wish list; it's a valuable tool for reflecting on our experiences, learning from past mistakes, and making meaningful improvements. In this episode, I share insights from recent trainings, conversations with my team, highlighting the importance of discussing deadlines and determining if they are attainable.
I emphasize the significance of breaking down larger tasks into manageable checkpoints along the way. Collaboration with leaders and teammates is key to ensuring that goals are SMART. But not in the specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound way.
Ken Blanchard introduced a new breakdown of SMART that makes me excited to set goals again.
Specific
Motivating
Attainable
Relevant
Trackable
See goal setting isn't just about productivity; it's about adding value to our work and finding motivation within ourselves. We discuss the importance of personally connecting with our goals, evaluating if they excite us and hold meaning. By setting goals that inspire us, we not only work smarter, but we also experience a renewed sense of purpose and motivation.
Failure to achieve goals can sometimes hinder our motivation and self-esteem, setting us back. But fear not! We can address this by reflecting on setbacks and failures as opportunities for growth.
During the episode, I share personal experiences and even touch upon my own struggles with writing SMART goals. I understand that goal setting can be daunting, but it is a crucial component of personal and professional success.
Blanchard also teaches us to look at the Specific and Trackable parts of a goal first. Then we can check to make sure it is Relevant, Attainable, and Motivating. If all of those check out, that is one smart goal.
So, whether you're folding laundry, driving in the car, or simply looking to enhance your goal-setting skills, join me for this episode of Connect the Dots-Lead the Way as we explore the power of setting SMART goals for a more fulfilling journey.
Remember, goals exist in all areas of life – not just work. Reflecting on them, even if they aren't achieved within the desired timeframe, helps us identify areas for future growth and change.
Laughter, Love, and Blessings,
Heather
